Turn a broad claim into a specific question
Natural, gentle and body-safe can sound reassuring, but they do not tell you exactly what a product contains or how to use it. Start by looking for a named manufacturer, a complete material or ingredient list, and instructions for the intended use. If those details are missing, keep the item on your research list rather than treating the marketing language as an answer.
Check what touches your body
For a device, distinguish the outer contact surface from an internal component. For a liquid or wash, read the full ingredient list rather than only the ingredient highlighted on the front. If you have a known allergy, ask a qualified professional about ingredients you are unsure of. A familiar scent, plant name or soft texture is not enough information to judge suitability.
Ask what it is compatible with
Check the instructions for both products when combining a lubricant with a device or barrier. A recommendation for one combination may not apply to another. If a listing does not name compatible materials, look for the manufacturer's own instructions or ask their support team. Save the response with the product details so you can refer to it later.
Treat care instructions as part of the purchase
Look for clear cleaning, drying and storage directions before buying. ‘Easy to clean’ should be followed by an actual method. If an item is powered, check which parts may get wet and whether it can be immersed. Do not assume a charging cover makes something waterproof. Think about whether the care routine will work in your home, including shared bathrooms and limited storage.
Be cautious with extra fragrance
The NHS advises avoiding perfumed soaps, washes and douches around the vagina when managing dryness. It also advises against using creams or moisturizers there unless they are intended for that use. More ingredients and a stronger scent are not automatically a better fit. Persistent irritation or discomfort deserves individual medical advice.
Use a short comparison note
For each item, record the named material, intended use, compatibility, care method and unanswered questions. Compare those answers before comparing colors or packaging. Bare does not certify products or perform laboratory testing. This checklist helps you see what a listing actually tells you, and what you still need to find out.
